Solar Rebates and Incentives
Residential Incentives:
- **UPDATE** APS now provides true net-net metering, meaning you sell excess electricity back to APS for the same price you buy it from them!
- APS will pay $3.00 a watt, up to 50% of the cost of a PV, solar electric system, and they will pay $700 for installation of a solar thermal system.
- The state of Arizona gives a tax credit (money off the bottom line of what you owe) of up to 25% of the remainder of the cost of the solar system. The credit is capped at $1,000 and may be applied to several years of taxes.
- The state of Arizona abates the sales tax on a solar system (there are limits on the upper end of the potential rebates, however generally the entire residential solar system is covered).
- The Federal Government gives a tax credit of 30% of the balance of the cost of the solar system with a cap at $2,000.
- The SUN gives you free, clean energy. You save on your energy bill every month as well as avoid rate increases.
Business Incentives:
- Same as above for Residential Incentives with the following additional incentives:
- APS pays $2.50 a watt, up to 50% of the cost of a PV, solar electric system.
- Federal tax credit has no cap on it, so it’s 30% of the balance of the remainder of the cost of the solar system. It is not limited.
- In addition the cost of the solar system qualifies for the $100,000 Federal one year tax deduction write-off and/or for an accelerated write-off over five years instead of the standard real property deduction over 39 years.
- The state of Arizona gives Businesses a 10% tax credit for the cost of a solar system, up to $25,000. The credit can be taken over 5 years.
- APS pays NET/NET (by keeping track of credit balances) for electricity generated by solar power above what is needed by the Residence or Building on a monthly basis. If more power is needed from APS for a future month it will simply be subtracted from the Balance previously produced.
